Crazy Wins The Wasteland — My Finale Episode of 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

What can I say… It’s been a spectacular journey, both as a writer and as a fan. I love these four turtles. They are the ultimate outsider heroes. As a kid I loved the comics, toys and role-playing game and live action film.

And years later I was very fortunate that my first professional writing gig was the 4kids Entertainment Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Fox Kids. Michael Ryan made a dream come true for this young writer and mutant.

And then… there was, as fans refer to it, TMNT 2012.

The first time I saw the designs of the turtles by Ciro Nieli my mind was BLOWN. The bandages wrapped around their hands and fingers, the clean lines, Donnie’s tooth gap. It looked so new, fresh and awesome.

Then… Season 2 hits, Brandon Auman joins the show and greatly changes the course of my professional writing career by allowing me the great honor of introducing SLASH (and having him kick the Turtles’ shells).

Four years later, tons of amazing adventures both on and off screen, tons of new mutant-friends many scripts and episodes I’m proud to have taken part of creating… and tonight it comes to an end.

My four seasons with the four turtles and their friends has come to the end of its journey. I’m so glad to take part in the series’ finale. Mad Raph, facing the wasteland, grown up, well past his adolescence… kind of like a writer at the end of a five season show. It couldn’t be a better way to say goodbye to the characters I love and this amazing chapter in my creative writing career. A HUGE THANK YOU and BUYAKASHA to Brandon for giving me the opportunity to play in this world.

Tonight. Crazy wins the wasteland.

HEART OF EVIL, TALES OF THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been an absolute highlight of my creative career. Having the opportunity to work in this universe, with this creative team and with my four favorite mutants has been a dream. And my most current episode HEART OF EVIL is a highlight of this career highlight. Growing up, like many, a huge fan of Star Wars, with Luke Skywalker being my first impression of what a hero is… and then all those years later being a fan of Batman The Animated Series and knowing The Joker is absolutely what the perfect villain is… to say I am a huge fan of Mark Hamill would still be an understatement. And to say I am excited to have him as the voice of Kavaxas in my most recent episode would also be a massiver-bigger-larger understatement than that! I am ecstatic! MARK HAMILL! As Kavaxas!!! This entire arc of the TMNT series is incredible. The creative team, the animation team, putting out their most inspired beautiful work. Hope you enjoy.

If you didn’t get to see it on the air, you can buy the entire Kavaxas arc on the Tales of TMNT Super Shredder DVD which is linked HERE!

Tokka Vs The World written by Gavin Hignight

So excited for everyone to see the latest episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that I had the great pleasure of writing. Why was this one so great for me? Because it has a massive Kaiju battle! The turtles vs a giant space turtle Kaiju by the name of… Tokka. ’nuff said!

Airing on Nickelodeon, Sunday February 5th at 9AM. Should be streaming through their service after. Booyakasha!!

Looking back, looking forward. Dec 2016

To those of you good enough to follow my endeavors and this very blog thank you. I apologize for the long gap in posts… this is due to various circumstances, mostly good, some bad. I have been insanely busing writing these last few months. On projects I can’t wait to brag about and for you to see in the year ahead. I also migrated everything to a much more reliable webhost company and lost some momentum (and files) during my migration. Getting everything back to normal now.

And speaking of “normal”, things are anything but aren’t they? I join many of you worried about the state of our nation as I look ahead to 2017. Be good to each other. Stand up for those who are under unjust attack. I will be there with you, on the right side of history. Look forward, not back.

I had some great moments in the last year. And although many of us have felt like the last few months are a continuous kick in the stomach I am thankful for some of the personal and creative victories I’ve had this year.

Thank you for keeping up with what I do. It wouldn’t be as fun creating if it was only for myself.

Last Light Fading

Last light fading
People stand in long metal tubes
Moving
The city of levels. Hidden spaces.
Up. Down. Under and above
Hong Kong night.
The lights.
The Desperation
Fatigue on their faces
A look I’ve seen before
New York. Tokyo. Hong Kong.
Concrete Crypts.
We’re already living in them.
Coffin town, a real place.
I’ve seen it. Boxes drug out to the streets.
Locals won’t walk near.
So this part of town can belong to us.
Bad luck won’t even come here.
Up and down, the night a Merry-Go-Round
Night in Hong Kong.
Last light fading.
We’re on our way tomorrow… or tonight.
Something new is always on the way.
New, next to old.
As last light is fading.
